Hygienist
Seeing the hygienist regularly can help you to take the best possible care of your teeth and gums. They play a key role in helping you to maintain a healthy mouth, avoiding problems such as decay and gum disease (the biggest cause of tooth loss in adults).
Gum disease is a common condition, and can cause bad breath, and sore, swollen or bleeding gums. If left untreated, it can eventually cause tooth loss. It can also affect your overall health, with links now established between gum disease, heart disease, diabetes and strokes.
During your visit the hygienist will clean your teeth professionally, removing plaque (a constantly-forming layer of sticky bacteria which causes gum disease) and leaving your teeth fresh and clean.
They can also advise you on the best way to care for your teeth and gums, including an effective daily cleaning routine and following a healthy diet.
